BELLEVILLE (AP) — A former southwestern Illinois lawmaker seeking a return to the state House says he has no plans to pursue the seat being vacated by Congressman Jerry Costello.
Democrat Jay Hoffman's disinterest in running for the 12th Congressional District seat comes after he was mentioned as a possible replacement for former Democratic nominee Brad Harriman.
Harriman this week dropped out of the race for Costello's seat, citing a worsening neurological condition he says isn't life-threatening but requires surgery.
Democratic leaders in the 12th District's counties will pick a replacement to go against Republican Jason Plummer.
Hoffman served 10 terms in Springfield before being defeated in 2010 by Republican Dwight Kay of Glen Carbon. He's now running for the 113th Illinois House district seat.
